- It was my understanding that the A1200+ was just a reorganizing of the
- A1200 motherboard and that the 68040 was not pin for pin compatible with
- the processor slot on the motherboard of the current A1200. The current
- A1200 motherboard can use 68030 variations but would need more power and
- a different pinout to use the 68040. On the other hand if they indeed
- did change the motherboard enough to use a 68040, wouldn't that also mean
- you could use a 68060 or would there be space limitations?
-
- Maybe the poster misinterpreted the Italian guy in that he meant the new
- A1200 would be 40 MHz and not 68040 based. The lowest denomanator 68k
- machine sold nowadays is the MAC with a 68040 and that might even soon be
- changing. Maybe the software developers and AT realized they needed the
- '040 to keep up slightly with todays technolgy and they changed their
- design but how would this affect price? Maybe they pulled the $3500
- A4000t trick again just the opposite.. getting everyone to expect an '030
- and having complaints it is not enough and then reveal it has an '040 and
- make it look very good in everyones eyes! I highly doubt this though and
- would say it is still the 68EC030 at 40 MHz.
-
- I am stuck in a terrible waiting position..
-
- I want to get a low end AGA Amiga and could either A) Buy a used one B)
- buy the new A1200 bundle when it comes here or C) wait for the A1200+
- with option A) I would have a lot of upgrading to do but I would keep
- compatibility and not have to worry about older games not working on the
- newer drives or B) get the newer A1200 and risk the drive problem and
- having to wait for new games/apps to be released which do not break or C)
- Wait for the all in one package improvement but again risk compatibility
- problems. I know I for one would like to be able to use the wealth of
- A1200 software already out there and not have it all gone to waste
- because of a stupid disk drive spinning .5 times faster then older
- drives. Is there not a way to fix this via hardware since it cannot be
- fixed via the OS?

- P.S. I am seriously considering getting a used A1200 here in North
- America with a 030/50 MHz accelarator and then pick up the Q Drive when
- it becomes available and upgrade any chips as they become available if
- they can be. This would mean no new support on my end for Amiga
- Technologies but it would save me compatibility issues. Now if they put
- an 040 in the new A1200+ then that would pose another problem as new
- software would require it and I wouldn't be able to put it in the old
- A1200 so either way it looks like a lot of people might lose with this
- "plus" upgrade with all the software they already have or could possibly
- own. When I heard talks of Escom being known for putting lesser known
- name brand parts in their computers thus making them not fully
- functional/compatible, I didn't think it would continue with Amiga
- Technologies!
